While it is more than possible to make money as a fashion designer, a fashion seller, and a fashion consultant without having a degree, you will find that having one may improve your chances of running a successful business.


 Fashion Magazine Off The Shelf
Another thing that you will want to look for is the contents inside.  For instance, you will want to skim through the contents page, which is often found at the beginning of the magazine. This will give you the opportunity to make sure that magazine or magazines you are about to buy are actually useful to you.  

Be cautious of any fashion magazine that only has about one or two articles that you may be interested in reading.  A great alternative, and a free one at that, to fashion magazines is the internet.  You can find a large number of online fashion tips and advice free of charge. This is a great way to find hard to find fashion tips or fashion tips that you can’t seem to find in a printed fashion magazine.

 Tooling For The Trade
Another problem that many hopeful designers face is not having the supplies needed to turn their drawings into real items or the money needed to do so. As with learning how to sew, there is good news when it comes to getting yourself supplies. For starters, if you are unsure as to whether or not you really want to try turning your fashion drawings into real items, you may want to think about seeing if anyone that you know has a sewing machine that you can borrow for a week or two.  

Also, if you want to buy your own sewing machine, you don’t necessarily have to buy brand new.  Yard sales, thrift stores, and online auction websites are great places to find affordable sewing machines.  As for the rest of your supplies, the like the fabric and other accessories, you may want to consider shopping online, as you can often find a number of discount craft stores or fabric suppliers online.

LadiesHeadBandAnother type of fashion accessory that you may be interested in owning is a purse or a handbag.  Teens and women most commonly own purses and handbags.  A purse is often used to describe a bag that is smaller or compact in size and handbags are often a little bit larger.  Handbags and purses come in a number of different styles; therefore, it is common for many women and teens to own more than one purse or handbag.  In fact, many individuals out there like to match their fashion accessories, including their purses and handbags, with the clothing that they wear.

One of the most popular and sought after careers in fashion is that of a fashion designer.  Fashion designers are individuals who design clothing and fashion accessories, like jewelry or handbags.  Many fashion designers start out small by making clothes and fashion accessories for themselves and their friends, but many later decide to start selling their own fashions. What is nice about being a fashion designer is that you can continue to make your own clothes or you can hire a manufacturer to do it for you.  You may also want to think about selling your own clothes either locally or online.



As outlined above, it is more than possible for you to turn your fashion drawings into real items, should you wish to do so. Turning your fashion drawings into real clothing pieces or clothing accessories, like jewelry or handbags, is a great way to express yourself and possibly even impress your friends.  In addition to being fun and exciting, you may find that your hobby can turn into a profitable career opportunity.
